Getting Exposure with Christina McKnight

Christina McKnight published her first novel, Only in Her Dreams last month. I invited her for an interview to get the perspective of an author who has just made the transition into authorhood.

I'm so excited for you to hear what she has to say about her journey thus far. It comes down to just getting your name out there and getting exposure!

What We Talked About:

  • Joining different writing groups and finding one that worked.
  • First two books were good practice, may look at them again some day.
  • Knew early on that she didn't want to publish traditionally.
  • Wrote her novel during NaNoWriMo and used beta readers before sending it to an editor.
  • The editor went through the manuscript four times before it was ready to be published.
  • By networking online, was able to find a cover designer recommended by a critique partner.
  • Her online platform has set her up with beta readers as well as great friends.
  • Signed up for a group on Goodreads and was invited to do a live chat  and group read.
  • If readers see your book in many places, they are more likely to buy.
  • If she could do it again, she would have focused on plotting future books sooner.
  • The decision for going exclusive on Kindle Select to gain maximum exposure.
  • Using Triberr to make sure her blog posts get seen.
  • Options for local promotion including libraries and places actually featured in the book.
  • The importance of having book bloggers reviewing your book.

Please share your thoughts on the best way to get exposure for yourself and your books!
