The Lark Trilogy by Erica Cope

The Lark Trilogy by Erica Cope

Genre: YA Fantasy/Paranormal

Want to win a Paperback copy of Lark (Book 1)? Leave a comment with your email and which cover is your favorite?

Book 1: Lark

The last time she checked, Mia Carrington was pretty sure that she was a normal girl with a completely ordinary life.

She goes to high school, has a crush on the gorgeous and mysterious new boy in town, and has strange dreams that she can’t help but feel are real somehow.

Okay, so maybe she’s not all that normal after all.

A freak accident changes Mia’s life forever when she is thrown into another world and left to deal with the revelation that she is the daughter of the King of the Light Elves. Throw in an ominous prophecy predicting that Mia will break a curse unleashing the Dark Elves on the world and well, things don’t look too good.

There is danger lurking at every corner in this strange world and Mia isn’t sure who she can trust…
The only thing she is certain of is that the Dark Elves know about her, and they will stop at nothing until they have her.

Book 2: In the Shadows

Mia Carrington is struggling to come to terms with the fact that she killed a man, while trying to find a balance between her role as the Princess of the Light Elves and attempting to lead the life of a normal human teenager.

Too bad her dual life doesn't come with an instruction manual.

Just when she thinks that fate can't throw anything else at her, the Duchess Isobel is found on the brink of death and Mia’s boyfriend Jacoby is the only suspect.

Despite the suspicion surrounding him, Mia is sure of the innocence of the boy she loves and she is determined to prove it no matter the risk.

The problem is, the one thing that can save Isobel and clear Jacoby can only be found in the shadows of the Underworld.

Oh boy.

Book 3: Like the Dawn

Mia Carrington has finally done the very thing she was destined to do all along—she's broken the curse on the Dark Elves.

In order to make up for her mistake, Mia has chosen to make the ultimate sacrifice: her mortal life. The Dark Elves are now wreaking havoc on the mortal world while the Light Elves are trying to gain alliances.

It seems now that Dugan has come into full power, nobody is brave enough to help defeat him, and the kingdom of Álfheimr cannot do it alone. It's up to Mia to try to persuade the other kingdoms, Raumelfr and Gautelfr, to join in their fight. Only they seem more concerned with frivolous matters—like who will rule beside Mia when she becomes Queen.

Now that she has taken her place as King Alberico's rightful heir, there is no shortage of suitors seeking her hand. But her heart already belongs to somebody, despite the fact that she believes her choice has separated them forever.

Mia has made her decision to be immortal and there's no turning back now, but every choice has its consequence and, like the dawn must fade into dusk, every beginning has to come to an end.

One day while out in the marshes of the Everglades, Grace and her friends rescue an abused—and endangered—Florida panther. She and Birdee spend time rehabilitating the animal. But when the panther runs off, Grace follows it toUncle Bob's, a large roadside zoo they all have been protesting. One that is illegally filled with a variety of endangered and exotic animals. Before she can rescue the panther, she and her friends are kidnapped by the ruthless owner and dragged deep into the Everglades for a hunting challenge.

Only this time, Grace is the prey.

During a sick game of cat and mouse, Grace and her friends are offered one chance at survival, but only if they reach civilization before being caught. With a small head start and very little supplies, only time and skill stand between the hunter and the hunted. But out in the Everglades, there may be more dangers than Grace realizes.

Against all odds, Grace must make it out alive and win, or everything she holds dear could be lost.

Seriously? A SERIES???

Greetings readers! My blogging prowess has been utterly lackluster in the weeks following the release of The Forgotten Ones, for which I apologize. Hopefully today's guest post redeems me in your eyes!

Anna Cruise has been writing and drooling over boys since middle school. Lots of years have passed but some things never change...

Did you just type The End on the manuscript you've been slaving over? Did you shed big, sloppy tears as you typed the final words of your denouement? Did you drag your feet—endlessly—while hammering out those last pages, simply because you didn't want to say goodbye to your characters?

Well, guess what?

You don't have to say goodbye. And you shouldn't say goodbye.

I know what you're thinking. Wait a minute. I just finished this goddamn book. What the hell is she talking about?

I'm talking series.

Yep. Series.

Right now, you're thinking: Uh, I wrote a stand-alone book.

I'm here to tell you there's no such thing. Every single book can be turned into a series. Every single one. And even if you wrote a book that you had no intention of continuing (like, you didn't put in one of those annoying cliffhangers...your book actually has an ending!!) the simple fact is that you can always continue the story. There is always a loose thread, a place to pick up, a new idea to explore with the characters you've gotten to know so well. It doesn't have to pick up where the previous book ended. It's not a straight continuation. Maybe it's a storyline that didn't get fully explored. Maybe it's a minor character that deserves a bigger story. Maybe it's a different point in time. But you can find that thread and weave it into something bigger.

Look, series sell. Big time. Readers want more stories. Because, just as you've gotten close to the characters you gave birth to, your readers have formed attachments to them, as well. I can't count how many reviews I've received where people mention how they wanted the story to go on, where they've actually docked me a star because they simply wanted more story. These characters become friends...friends that they don't want to let go of, you know?

So, should you write a series just to satisfy your readers? No. Because you'll benefit, too. Not simply in sales (do you know what the click-through factor is when you hyperlink the next book in your series in your e-book file? Me, either. But it's good.) but in reader loyalty, too. Your readers will become deeply invested in the stories you weave and that means they'll become pretty invested in you, too. Your fan base will grow, your interaction with your readers will grow (as long as you engage along with them) and your sales will absolutely grow, too.

There you go. Congrats on typing The End.

Now sit your ass back down and type Chapter 1.

To the next book in the series you didn't know you were going to write.

Because, trust me...your readers will want it.

I love reading series, even though it can be hard to wait for the next installment!

How do you feel about writing series?

Love Notes by Heather Gunter

Love Notes by Heather Gunter

Young Adult Contemporary

How do you cope when the people you care for hurt you the most? When the way you feel on the outside, smothers you on the inside. And when you are left to face your demons alone, will you learn that only you have the power to overcome them?

Charlie has never had it easy. Between the constant moving and the incessant fat comments and jokes from her father, her self-worth is nonexistent. Her reflection in the mirror shows her nothing but a plain Jane. Music is the only thing that keeps her sanity in check.

Charlie catches the eye of the town star quarterback, Maverick. With her curves, her brunette hair, and the voice of an angel, Maverick has never met anyone like her. Everything that is different about Charlie just makes Maverick like her more. Unfortunately, Charlie doesn’t see it herself.

Proving it to her may deem harder than he thinks, especially when tragedy strikes and tears them apart.

Now standing on her own two feet she may finally learn exactly who she is, what’s she’s capable of and how very un plain Jane she really is.

Excerpt:

I turn to Will, “Dude was that really necessary?” Will just throws his quirky smile up and shrugs his shoulders.

“Couldn’t be helped bro. It looked like you were drooling all over yourself. We are talking baby drool bad. And I, being your best friend and all, am here to help keep you from the massive embarrassment you were fixing to bestow upon yourself.”
I hang my head, stare at the floor and smile. “Can’t help it Will. I like her, I like her a lot.”
I knew I wouldn’t catch any ribbing from him, considering his infatuation with a certain red head.
Will starts chuckling, “Yeah, yeah, I know. I could tell. You forget, I’ve known you since diapers. I have to say though Maverick, I’ve never seen you so, so....Twitter paited.”
Nice. A Disney reference.
“You ass,” I laugh, and playfully punch him in the arm and grab him into a headlock. Of course, it doesn’t faze him and he’s laughing like the tool he is. I let go and he finally stops laughing and turns serious, like the switching of a light.
“Nah, seriously dude, I can tell you like her. She’s hot Maverick, and seems really nice. She also doesn’t seem very into herself, which is rare. Plus, I also saw her walking with Tori earlier. So I know she’s got to be cool.”
I instantly feel a pang of jealousy. I must have gotten a look on my face and Will can read me like a damn book.
“Now, now don’t get all territorial and go pissing all over her. That might turn her off,” he says. I simmer down because I know he still has feelings for someone else. It was the fact that he noticed. But then again, anyone would notice. How could you not? I just don’t want any competition. The thought of someone else with her was driving me insane.

When not writing or updating her Into the Night Reviews book blog, you will find Heather curled on the couch reading, surrounded by her children and four dogs. Her cravings for music and books are insatiable. One of her favorite things to do is sing and used to have a dream of becoming a singer. The dream has since changed and is now to become a full time writer. She holds a strong anti-bullying conviction and voices it regularly. She resides in Canton, GA with her husband, 3 boys, 4 dogs, 1 cat and 2 ferrets.

Six Questions with Anne Michaud

Today we have Anne Michaud on Six Question Saturday. Anne is getting ready to publish her collection of five Young Adult novellas, Girls & Monsters.

She's been published in several Magazines and Anthologies, and it's a pleasure to have her to answer my famous Six Questions!

What authors have influenced you the most?

So many have left strong impressions on me through the years, it's hard to recall. Still, my favorites are: Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Neil Gaiman, Suzanne Collins, Michael Grant, Jean-Christophe Rufin, Scott Westerfeld, and Edgar Allan Poe.

When did you decide you wanted to have your writing published?
At the first sell of my short story Visitors – the first thing I ever wrote after years of screenwriting, on the first magazine I sent it to. I was lucky and thought it would be that easy to get an agent and then published traditionally. What a fool.

What is your editing process and have you hired a professional editor?

Well, I have a few good beta readers who point out obvious problems, one of my friend whose English is better than mine passes through everything, and then DarkFuse's editor finished it off with two rounds of edits, polishing with final copyedits.

What are the most important things you've done to market your books?

This blog tour is pretty major, more than 30 blogs spreading the word through reviews, interviews and guest posts. The hardest is trying to find intelligent/interesting things to say and make it sound like I'm not repeating yourself. Oh, and my handcrafted collection of Skellies, each representing the monsters in my collection are pretty cute, too.

How long should an author work on building a presence online before publishing?

I have no idea!! I've been quite active on Twitter for the past two years, my blog Musings and Little Obsessions has been up for just as long, and before that I had an online journal for the main character of my novel Rebel. That was so cool, getting to explore her day to day life, until I rewrote the whole book and changed her world completely. I still read it when I miss her, though.

What lesson have you learned along the way that you would hope others could avoid?

Get out there, make friends, don't be afraid to approach people, even big writers who are so easily accessible, these days. You never know what could happen, how your moment will finally arrive and who you'll meet.

As I get closer to my own publication date, I find myself asking more and more: what do you think is the best way to get your name out there?

Six Questions with Laury Falter

Good morning and welcome to another super awesome week of Six Question Saturday!

Please help me welcome author Laury Falter, author of YA paranormal romance and urban fantasy.

Was there a certain book or author that inspired you to write?

Gosh no. I'd been writing my entire life, never really showing my work to anyone (with the exception of a children's pirate book I wrote that Scholastic took a serious look at before deciding against publishing it), and then I showed my sister, Babs, the first few chapters of Fallen. She wrote back in big caps SEND ME MORE. So truly Babs was my inspiration. Every chapter I sent her, she kept pushing me for the next one. Like an addict, but in a good way. :)

Do you plan out your novel or just fly by the seat of your pants?

You know I once read an interview by another author who said that there are two types of writers: architects who build the story from an outline and gardeners who start from the seed of an idea and write the story from there. I'm both. I start as a gardener, planting the idea, writing it, nurturing it, and when I'm about halfway through the book I write the outline to sum it all up. Not sure if that's how others do it, but seems to work for me.

How do you edit?

Oh, that's simple. I don't. :) I leave that to my editors. I write my story and then turn it over to a content editor and a proofreader. Both are fantastic. It took me a while (and several books) to find the best ones, but they are worth the wait. They are absolutely phenomenal. I couldn't live without either one of them.

Did you build a platform before releasing a book?

Oh no, not even close to it. I literally wrote Fallen (my first book) in just under two months, put it online for sale, and let it sit there. Lame, I know. I just never thought anyone out there would read it. When they did - which I learned was the case after I released the next book in the series (Eternity) and the sales started to skyrocket - I was blown away. When that happened, I figured that I should give writing a true shot, which required me to build out a platform. Of course, I was slow to Facebook and Twitter, but there's a reason behind it. It's not a very good one and I harangue myself daily for it, but here's my dirty little secret...I'd rather be writing than writing about writing. When I'm in front of my computer, half of me, the predominant part, keeps pulling me back to the open Word doc with the title of whatever I'm writing at the moment. And the thing is, I don't go kicking and screaming. I go willingly.

How have you found the right readers for you?

I'm not sure I can take that credit, to be honest. I think that they found me, thankfully, because I put virtually no effort into promoting my books. I'm guessing its through word of mouth. I write what I'd personally like to read, and put it out there (and then hold my breath until the first reviews come in). Strangely, I write young adult paranormal romance and urban fantasy but my fans come from all walks of life...male, female, domestic, international, teens, adults, retirees. And they are the best, so incredibly supportive. I feel blessed because of them.

If you could start all over, what would you do differently?

Huh, that made me think. Truthfully...nothing. At the risk of turning sappy, writing has been a journey, one that I've muddled through, tripped over, gotten a little dirty on. I wouldn't change it, though. It's a good experience...even when you're erasing the last three pages you spent hours on to start again.

Who has inspired you to publish your book?

Six Questions with Nikki Jefford

One thing before I announce this week's Six Question Guest. Due to the fact that I am getting down to the wire with publishing The Forgotten Ones, I'm going to be cutting down the number of posts I publish per week from four to two.

I'll keep Six Question Saturdays because they're my most popular posts. But, I am getting where I am really needing to focus on the editing stage of the book, so please forgive me and know that I'm still here, just a little less.

And, with that -- today I'm honored to present the talented and beautiful Nikki Jefford to Six Questions! Have a great weekend!

Six Questions with Leigh Talbert Moore

Today's guest for Six Questions is red-hot Young Adult/New Adult author Leigh T. Moore.

Her publishing story is unique, and I know you'll learn a lot. Welcome to Six Questions Leigh!

1. What do you find the most challenging about starting a new writing project?

Getting myself to sit down and focus. Seriously, I'll have the most amazing idea that I'm so excited about, and then I'll be all Doug (the dog from UP)... squirrel! :D But once I get going, then I usually get sucked in and time flies. But it's all about the BICHOK (butt in chair, hands on keyboard). (Sarah Fine invented that, btw.)

2. What book or author has influenced you the most in your writing?

I think Stephen King's "On Writing." Because he made it okay to have a weird, sort of hybrid style that wasn't outlining and all the steps you imagine. He was very empowering in a "So long as it's working," way for me. Plus he gave me so many great ideas--like the putting your finished MS in a drawer for a month, etc. It's a really great craft book. Highly recommend it to writers!

3. Do you write every day, or what is your system to get words on paper?

When I'm working on a book, I write every day. Once I get the BICHOK going, sometimes I don't stop writing, which is not good because I'm a mom. But when I'm in between books (like now), I don't write every day. And I miss it. :P

4. Once you finish draft one, what's next?

I have the most amazing group of critique partners (critters). Once Draft #1 is done, I go through it again myself and make revisions, then I ship it off to them and chew my nails while I wait for them to read it. :o)

5. Where do you connect with your readers?

This is evolving for me. Initially, I was a traditional author. I had an agent, I had a deal with Simon & Schuster, and I was happy just to blog and connect with writers and readers that way. I also have a pretty active Facebook page, but that's mostly non-writer friends and family. Basically, I was going to let the traditional guys do all the work connecting me with readers.

Since I've gone independent, if I want to connect with readers, I have to get out there. And I've been looking at the different options to see what works best for me. I'm getting more active on Goodreads, I'm following more reader-oriented blogs and FB pages, I'm even Tweeting more! :D And I get email from readers quite often, and I LOVE that! It's so great. I'm so happy doing it this way because I feel like THIS is why I'm a writer--to connect with readers.

6. If you could start over, what about this whole process would you do differently?

I would've skipped the agent-publisher game and jumped on the indie bandwagon in 2011 when several of my writer-friends were doing it. But I'm a firm believer in everything happening for a reason, and I pray a lot. So I'm following MY path, and we'll see where it leads!

As I say all the time, we all have our own unique path -- what sets you apart from other authors?
